Another odd request - has anyone got the plastic cylinder that comes inside new campagnolo cassettes? I mean the bit of packaging which keeps the cassette together until you fit it on a bike?

Local sawmill and get a bag of sawdust(the original filling material used so that would keep with a retro theme) probably only a couple of quid these days
Used to get it for the butchers floor
from there find an army type duffle bag or some sort of heavy canvas
