I've never seen them sheer, their biggest problem was the top 'chainset style' bolts always came undone.
Yes in 1995 model they moved to the riveted type (like the M737 of years before)
Though I'm a touch confused as as far as I know they did not make M900 in a Ti version, not even the riveted one (-I) version. The CS-M950 had Ti cogs but that was riveted.
