Not amazingly well, you've got to set them quite close to the rim, and they are very spongy. Needed re-adjusting during sunday's ride after the blocks started wearing.....
But they work well enough for me, i don't ride fast enough for decent brakes!! :oops:

BITD i run drop bars on a 88 Hardrock for about 4 years. I got strange looks, but it was great fun. :D
 
I thought thtat might be the case - you need to either get some levers like dia-caompe 287s which are designed with the correct cable pull for Vs (or some travel agent roller things), or go with old-style cantis. here's my '94 S-works M2 in SS, drop bar mode for strathpuffer last year:
