Folks, I have bee doing a job for a guy at work making one good bike from two, which has left me with a Claud Butler Fuselage.
It looks like this one:

The catalogue linked above is 1995, but I guess the one I have in hand is 1996 or 1997, as it's ahead and vee brake. It is badged as a "Spectre", and is oversize aluminium, whereas the 1995 spectre from the archive is 653. Needless to say it was a pretty light machine when built.

I am offering the fuselage, so the ally frame, the chromed steel fork, the decent and smooth headset, the stem, and a zoom handlebar. Oh and the seatpost, seat clamp and a saddle.
Add your own groupset, and you're rolling. Oh the wheels are compulsory included too.

So:
Frame, 14" c to c, 16" c to top. Polished ally, though plenty of white oxide worms under the lacquer. Polish it for the rest of your life or live with it.
TT is 21.5 C to C
34.9 f/mech
31.6 s/post
Stem is 110.

Wheels are Vuelta Rock 19 rims on shimano FH-RM40 quick release hubs. They are filthy and need a clean.
Fited tyres are:
f/ conti 1.3 avenue semi slick
r/ Panarace Pasela tour guard 1.25
Both have slime tubes fitted and I have fitted new valve cores.
Filth and slicks indicates a previous life as a commuter.

Would make a great commuter, pub bike, or actually a nice modest mountain bike
Collection only from SE London/ NW Kent (DA5 postal area) ONLY

Photobucket is jiggered so pics are an issue. Can probably email some if you need.

Hello Elite,
Not for me as its way too small, but just FYI....
The Spectre was Tange in 1996 & still in Cro-mo in 1998, both were third in what were quite large ranges. I don't know if inbetween it had an an outing in 7005 Ali, possible I guess. photos would help. ;)

PS, if the saddle is a Tioga Cotton, like the one below, or for that matter, the embroidered one. please can I buy it from you? (the saddle)

Thanks for the info- really interesting to try and pin down the year. yes, it's defo aluminium, and I very much doubt it was re-stickered as the stickers would be quite large and complex to re apply. They've faded too.
I'll try and get some pics up and see if anyone else can shed some light, or wants to take it off my hands.

Definitely a Spectre....

Cool, so its got the graphic style and head badge that first apeared in 1997. And we know its not a 1998, by which time the 7005 Aluminium frames and dropped down the order to the bottom end of the range.

My money's on 1997.... and I'm pretty sure it would have sported a Rock Shox Indy XC fork....
