"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"šŸ˜

You know it's just a puppet with a blokes hand up it?

Thatā€™s a bit harsh on the mods.

But seriously, let it go guys. Very hard to see the nuances of what someone actual means on line. Threads will stray from time to time, thatā€™s natural, but itā€™s best to stay on track if possible. Weā€™ll all disagree from time to time, just get over it.

Mountain bike forums are ridiculously over-moderated in my experience. Too many people make complaints about posts, too many don't like it when someone disagrees and rather than having a discussion go crying to moderators, and moderators also have a tendency to love doing things, like editing posts, deleting and locking things as soon as it either goes off at a tangent (here's a hint, conversations do that all the time) or disagrees with someone (in which case discuss it, don't get all petulant like a toddler. I don't know what it is about bike forums in particular that makes it so, I've never noticed it being so pronounced in any other forum other than a few random American ones.
Not noticed it here either until lately. There's been no change in the moderation team that I know of, therefore I must assume there's been a change in the attitudes (or relative hide thickness!) of members here over the last month or so.

I blame the weather, frustrating many by not allowing as much in the way of pleasant riding/outdoor tinkering time.

I have been active almost daily on RB since 2021, and I have seen very little mod activity, and all of it was swift and effective. None of it is "politically motivated". You all are making a mountain of a molehill. If a thread goes full off topic it makes sense to start a new one. Although I wouldn't close a thread because it has gone off topic myself, let others do with their threads what they feel is right. Finally, we are not "creating content" to be monetized, this forum is no cash cow. It is a place to share the ins and outs of a hobby that most aren't interested in in the slightest, and it is well documented that this is a civil and safe place. Mods attribute to that as well as we do.

No comment was made about moderators. It was a tongue in cheek comment.
I agree with your other remarks šŸ‘

Well said. Far better than I could.

Surely it stands against all the rules of common sense engineering.. Progress can hardly be defined as taking a machine that was easy to maintain, inexpensive relative to other forms of transport and at it's finest incredibly beautiful to behold, and turning it into precisely the opposite. So expensive that it excludes the common man, needing expensive maintenance and specialist knowledge even to replace a cable. This is progress..?

Not to mention being incredibly ugly to look at. Henry Ford was scoffed at for proclaiming one could have a Model T in any colour as long as it's black. Henry should have stuck around long enough to see a sector embrace his views wholeheartedly.

No wonder the industry is on its knees.. ultimately it's a victim of a takeover by hedge funds and luxury brands seeking to sweat every penny it can from those with more money than sense...
