ID my mystery Trek!

Challenge time. Can anyone ID this bike?
The decals are definitely not original/official, they're wrong size/position, and 'ZX' definitely doesn't belong on a bike of this vintage. The paint colour is a metallic blue which doesn't seem to match anything in the Trek catalogues from the early 90s. There's no evidence of any other colour paint underneath it. The serial number is missing from the bottom bracket, where someone has stamped a postcode.
Components are a mishmash:
What could be original - Deore DX mechs & cranks, XT cantis & ST-M092 push-push brifters, Sakae Low Fat pedals, DiaCompe headset, Tange bottom bracket.
And stuff that's been replaced, bars obviously have been upgraded, stem and seatpost don't match the OEM Trek Matrix kit of the period, the saddle is not original, and the wheels are low end Exage hubs with unbranded rims - obviously someone took the original wheels off it 😡
It must be a 90-92 bike because of the Tange Big Fork, but I'm pretty stumped because nothing really matches. Unless there were frame colours produced that weren't listed on the catalogues? In which case could it be a '91 8000, as that had XT cantis, whereas the '92 had DX, and the '90 had cantis that were not low profile.

Well you know where it used to live.

Flying visit so not read the details,
1992 8000 had a blue frame like that, so check the technical details

That was my first thought, but that Lunar paintjob in the catalogue is lilac/purple/blue colour, rather than blue. I'm now leaning towards that the bike might have been repainted for some reason

I reckon that's a respray. It wouldn't have had the red trek logo painted I don't think, and the decals don't look right to me.

Nice frames and nice kit though.

Have you had a look at the date codes on the "what could be original" Shimano stuff?
A recent purchase of mine had a load of date codes are '91 - PE though to PJ - suggesting a '92 model?
