Right here goes, In 2011 I built a brand new Santa cruz bullit and I do love it but its really too much of a bike for what Riding I do so all she does is sit in the shed looking pretty. Now do I keep her and let her rot or do I lose a load of money sell the bullit F&F and use the components on a all mountain Hardtail rig? your opinions are greatly valued. cheers Rob

tough one, i originally built my patriot just for the 2 weeks or so each year i go to morzine, but it was all bought used over a period of a year, that said, since then i have got a spare air shock and spare fork and it has become a much more user friendly trail centre beast and as such gets alot more use as the 'spare' fork and shock have now become the preferred set up. i assume it's not as easy to do this with the bullit though.

i find i tend to prefer long travel travel trail bikes, 5" or so, they can be used for more general riding aswel as being ok for some relatively big stuff like morzine, so my advice would be to look for a heckler frame with and air shock and see if you can pay the same for that that you could sell the bullit for, same with the fork maybe.

:)

Thanks for your reply, ideally I'd be after a hardtail as I've also got a yeti 575 and just fancy a change, not rode a ht in a good few years now. So if I did sell the bullit of probs go chameleon.

that makes sense then, problem is (as i see it) the more downhill specific stuff doesn't sell well these days, well it sells just it seems for not good money, i have been following santa cruz prices abit recently, was thinking about a superlight, but i also noticed bullets were going for as little as £250 although that was the older ones, the newer ones i'm not sure. so if you bought it new then that's a sizeable loss, but then £250+ would buy a nice used hardtail frame depending on what you want.

Yeah it sure is a sizable loss., that's what's making me want to keep it. I could
Save a bit more as I do like the look of a cotic bfe, they go for around £330 new.

Better to have a bike you use than a good one in the shed. Ypu may be aurpriaed what you sell yours for, eBay can be hit or miss. On a good day you coyld get back a lot!

I think the problem is that modern trail bikes are so damn good that bigger travel bikes fail to sell because there is little need for them. Full on DH bikes will still sell because they are quite specialist.

If you're not using the bike it seems silly to keep it, however my Cotic doesn't get used loads but I can't bring myself to sell it. I built it up over time so it doesn't feel like it owes me anything.

If you do sell, split it.

When was the last time you used it?

Hey dude, well to be honest it's practically brand new! I use my 575 more than the bullit. The reason I want an ht is because I really miss my old lopes it was so much fun! If i do sell it I will be splitting it. I actually fancy a BFe myself.

Fair enough, I guess that's not that much between the two and if you're not using the Bullit to its full potential, then it makes since to sell it.

The BFe is a great little bike and works best with 130mm forks.

I think the trouble is the 575 and Bullit are quite simliar, both longish travel full susses. Why did you think you would need two? With an HT and the 575 they would be very different beasts and it would be much easier to decide which to use, according to the trail or even just your mood, not so clear cut with the two current ones and I'm guessing the 575 is getting most of the use?
