How French is your Velo?

Re:

Thanks allenh. My thoughts as well. Some research on Italian sites seems to indicate that the decals on Italian made bikes have the "block capital" decals as on mine, whereas the French products all seem to show the "script" signature style.

And yes, ditch (or sell!) the sprint wheels and look out for some nice old Italian clinchers - perhaps some Fiamme rims on Ofmega hubs? I'll ask around on here.

But certainly a refurb is now on the cards. Interestingly there's a "nuovo" (new) Geminiani on ebay.it looking very much like mine - but they're asking 2,500 euro!

Anyway, the saga continues at my revived refurb thread:

So farewell you French bike afficionados! Thanks for your help.

Having had the pleasure of discussing an old Gitane with allenh over the last couple of days I’ve just been admiring the Gallic loveliness in this thread and thought it might like a bit of a bump up.

My complete current Frenchie is below. Although we are letting the side down somewhat with the 3ttt bars and stem the stem does at least carry the engraved details of a French dealer.
