Hi ! What is this bates bike??? Im new to the site. I thought this might be the right place to get some advice.

My dad passed away last august(Road bike fanatic!!!). In amongst a van load of bikes and components were bob jacksons, holdsworths and a bates frame. I've tried my best to restore it sympathetically(please ignore the modern lights and hideous cheap pedals....they were just popped on so I could test drive it and make sure the suntours were working. Can anyone advise me on how to accurately I.D. it in order to get a fair selling price? Serial number under the bottom bracket seems to read as 11076 and I can't find this online. I'm going to TRY to attach some pictures. Thankyou

Its a Horace Bates, brother of EG bates, Barking rd Plaistow. Moved to Westcliff on sea then Ron Cooper built them. Great bike I've had two. Yours looks to have integral headset cups, which would mean a head clip headset. This has been changed. If it is, its an early one. Yours has certainly been modernized. The Constrictor lamp bracket is worth a bit.

Thankyou very much for your knowledgeable reply. Any advice on either :
What it's missing to return it back to original state OR
Where to look in regards to finding a new home for a fair price
I know my dad (after spending ages working on it!) Couldn't adjust to it and stuck with a bob jackson. I have no idea how to price this old girl and (even if dad couldn't get used to it) he put work into it and I don't want to get ripped off. It's just going to collect dust with me or my brother because we have bikes he did just for us. Any advice on comparisons would be great

Hi, your serial number would put it around 1945/1946, possibly a BAR model, number should have a prefix letter for the model, BAR was U.
Have look here for some info on Bates :-

Do you know the origin of the C.Barber name on the top tube? I'm asking because I have a frame with C.Barber on the top tube too and a pair of wheels that had Dymo labels saying Chris Barber stuck on them!

C.Barber was my dad, Clive

That's interesting, I must have bought some of his collection then:-

Unfortunately, dad died without clearing up a few mysteries including these 2 frames which he clearly sandblasted and resprayed. The holdsworth badge placement holes seem correct for the blue one but the red one .....I have no idea. Fairly distinctive though. I hope someone could shed some light on it:
