I picked this up from someone local who was selling it on fleabay. After spending hours on end looking at different frames and coming up with nothing I must now hang my head in shame and bow to the superior knowledge of long standing Retrobike members. If anyone can give me a helping hand in providing any information on the frame I will happily send you 10 metres of Frame Wrap in exchange for your valuable knowledge.

So here goes.

It's approx 16" Frame with a 27.2 Seatpost.

Reinforced Bottom Bracket/Seatpost/Downtube

Reinforced Toptube/Seatpost

Cables run along the top of the toptube.

Standard sized head tube.

Box section Chain and Seat Stays

Disc compatible

Dropout with missing Gear Hanger

Rear seat stays.

Bottom Bracket with Frame Number AF40600507.

So if anyone can shed some light on the frame it would be appreciated. It could be a BSO but I highly doubt it because it also came with a Deore LX Crank and Octalink BB which I think is original.

Kind Regards

Liam

It may have been at some time in it's poor hard life, however I think the paint job has been on the frame for a while as it doesn't look too fresh. So it's probably warm as opposed to Red Hot, something I didn't consider when buying it, however I did ask the seller the history of it and he told me he picked it up at the local recycling centre. Which obviously absolves me from any claims of handling stolen goods.

Kind Regards

Liam

Cheers for the heads up Mark, it's very much appreciated. After you posted the link to your build, I've been looking everywhere for more information and it seems the frame is Thai built and there are a number of different companies who have sold this frame under different names.

Chain Reaction under Brand X MKIII

Merlin have actually sold the frame as well and it was sold under Merlin 7005 Trials.

You can still buy the frame on eBay all polished up.

So thanks for the helpful information, although there is one other thing I need if possible, could you send me a picture of the Rear Gear Hanger as I need to get hold of one and if you can PM me your address details I'll send you 10 metres of Frame Wrap as promised.

Kind Regards

Liam

Sounds like you've been busy online! As per the thread I linked to, I've got an old MBUK with an add for the frame I've got, it's a good heavy duty jump bike that my brother loves. It's at my parents house, but I'm round there tomorrow eve, so I'll take a pic or the hanger then. I'll PM you my address later, thanks for the frame wrap!

Busy, I've been using my Googlefu to the MAX. Cheers for offering to take the picture as it will help me out. Think I'm just going to get rid of those horrible brake bosses, strip it and give it the shiny treatment. As for Dirt Jumping I don't think so, I bought it for the sole purpose of using it as and when my Full Susser isn't required and as a commuter/run around.

Kind Regards

Liam

Definitely a Brand-X, had to cable tie the brake hoses on the pink one I built up for a friend of mine:
