I'm afraid I didn't quite get what you are saying in your second paragraph. What is the fork crown?
In order from the bottom there is: fork, crown race, bearings, cup...right?

these usually refer to the mounting hole, central in the fork crown just below the bottom bearing, about 15<20mm lower depending on the fork.

Ah! Yes, now I understand what you meant and what that "ones" refers to (the hanger).

The current "hanger", which is not a hanger technically because it's mounted on the fork, is quite low, so even if I was to choose a fork crown mounted one, I would need to shorten the housing a little bit.
 
Yes, sorry if it wasn't clear.

A fork crown mounted hanger (from my perspective) ticked all the boxes.

I even switched forks on my cyclocross bike so i could use one. (had some issues caused by the original one!)
