Adding to this to vent, but just got some shimano cranks with the clinch chainring. I thiught they were using a cassette tool to fix but no, need a new tool to fit them. Wish I had known as could have ordered ot whilst waiting!

I’ve got the RISK one from eBay - came quickly and is a very good design - two o rings to hold it in place - works brilliantly.

That's what I've just ordered, but rebranded different name. Same two o ring design

I gave my chain ring a good squirt of releasing fluid and left it before tackling it - but I think Shimano have done their homework and specd the thread pitch for easy release.

Two builds … I have a box full of chainrings going back to the Big Bang, and now adding to XTR 9000s, XT 8000s, I have bought M8100 (new standard), then Hope (new and different standard…) …….. ARGH!!
