Dawes Galaxy Twin 1992

I just gave it a pre-spring strip and clean so thought I'd share. . . [edited from 1993 to 1992 after looking at an old catalogue]

1992 Galaxy Twin, 21"/19", Shimano XT 3 x 7 speed, acquired a couple of years ago and used by myself and my wife/daughters.

Wheels upgraded in the 1990's to 48h Mavic rims on Suzue hubs.
Arai drum in as new condition, maybe had new shoes at some point as it had done some Alpine touring.

Upgrades since 2020:
New hub bearings including a new axle and drive side outrigger bearing on the rear.
New headset, new chains x 2.
New tyres (37c Marathon Supreme), SKS mudguards, bar tape, saddles and brake levers (Shimano 600).
New alloy stem to replace crude old steel number - fitted via a long shim to accomodate a 1" stem into the 1 1/4" head tube.
New alloy stoker stem from SJS to replace broken steel stem.
NOS 40t ring on triple.
Replaced bar-end lever for drag brake with short-reach MTB lever for easier and stronger pull.

Just needs a new front BB and it'll be like a new bike!

Lovely bike. Some solid upgrades, bet it's riding well. How does your stoker find the drops? We just have wide bullhorns on the back on our (slightly!) newer Twin.

Cheers, yes, it really does ride like a new bike - pretty amazing for a 30 year old machine!

My main stoker is my 12yo daughter. She complains of sore hands on her flat bar solo on a long ride so I decided to try drops for her. The variety of hand positions for her is going down well so far - she seems to default to the "on the hoods" position. The low seat means the drops are at a fairly comfortable height too. They're 42cm wide, and my thighs just miss them when I'm pedalling.
