We’ve got some excellent news over in the Vintage Cycle Clubs Google docs online library;

“Claud Butler’s Scrapbook”
This important historical document was donated to the Veteran-Cycle Club by John P. Butler, son of Claud Butler, in May 2021. Also donated was a photograph album detailing the Staff Dinner of 1955.
Due to Covid travel restrictions it was agreed that these documents would be collected at a mutually agreeable time after the restrictions had been lifted. It was not until January 2022 that Doug and Dot Pinkerton were able to travel to collect them. At the February 2022 V-CC Committee meeting they were passed to Ray Miller for scanning.
This Scrapbook is an important and historic personal archive. It is a substantial book of some weight with dimensions of approximately 14in.(H) X 91⁄4in.(W) X 4in.(D). Due to its weight and many loose items, including pages, the only practical way to record the detail is by photography. Also, as John P. Butler, concedes, “They need a bit of sorting ...... They’re a mixed bag and rather disordered: reminiscences, press cuttings about the war, photos of meetings, celebrations, race meetings, cyclists from 1920s onwards, etc. There are a few things relating to family, his 40th birthday, a holiday in St Ives during the war, and trips abroad and to America for example. But mostly they’re about people and events only cycling aficionados will be familiar with and maybe throw some light on times past.”

It’s going to take Ray sometime to get it all sorted but it should a fascinating addition to the library.

That is great news and such a treasure trove of information that up until now has been hidden away.
Thanks for sharing and I am sure we will see and hear more as it comes available.
