Campagnolo 8 speed Rear Mech with 10 speed cassette

It will be fine. I have run 9, 8 and ancient record rear mechs with 10 speed shifters.
in many case the theory won't match the reality

I was more concerned over the dropout width, not the mechanic.

Anyway my ebay 8 speed wheels turned up (Steel Cassette body Atlanta 96's), and they fit perfectly, so frame was probably 130mm rear dropout in the first place.
