Been using Brake cable outer as gear cable for cheapy builds for, ooer, about 16 years.



It always worked so never really thought about it.

The best and most affordable way to buy cable outers is to go to your LBS and ask them to cut you a specific amount (obviously you need to measure how much you want first!).

Even better, buy a whole roll!
