Mick Snr of course is a time trialling legend, a real hard man of long distance events - and he could still turn out a decent 25 as well!

Been there many times - mountainbiking at Leckmelm, fishing in Loch Broom and around the Summer Isles.

Was there ever any truth in the cross-dressing rumours? (happy for mods to delete the latter if its a bit risky)
a one-off 4th in the tour - same as wiggins. (ok I concede he got KOM as well), but the guy's personality didnt deserve it - he couldnt communicate with either fans or media and publicly made known his dislike of publicity.roadking":3pwj9ru1 said:

Regardless, doesn't detract from Millar's acheievements and I'd argue that his road palmeres is far superior to Wiggins (but Wiggins' track pedigree is beyond question and coupled with his road record shows incredible range).

As implied previously the comparison with riders past/present is inevitable, we all do it, but it is fatuous.
Millar was a pioneer, living abroad was not easy in those days (globalisation was not a fact of life), in places a lot of working class guys like Millar had never heard of...coming to grips with a foreign culture.
Much easier for riders today, increased professionalism read commercialisation of the sport, minders, etc. Much easier for Wiggins than for Millar.
Millar just wanted to ride the bike, and he did not want to be a celebrity outside his chosen profession.
What is revealing is his editorship of one edition of Cycle Sport (in 1997 I think) more revealing in many ways than the"In Search of"book.
I've much more respect for those guys - Millar/Yatesy/Sherwen than for any of the Wiggins/Cavendish/Hoy generation (that's not to diss the latter's achievements at all).

Millar is indeed now a woman, he came into my shop today and i recognised him straight away.Thats his choice and fair play.
I wanted to shake his hand and ask him dozens of stuff but didnt of course as thats exactly what he doesnt want to hear.Shame though.
I was just a teen when he was winning stages in the Tour.Millar and Lemond are the guys with team Z that really got me into the whole bike racing thing.
