£40 to blast the old paint off, mask where necessary, then powder coat metallic grey (lovely little sparkly finish). That included the frame, forks and 2 stems.
I bust a gut getting it ready for the Lakes ride but that was cancelled. So it's been sitting in the workshop waiting for the snow to melt - I want to get some nice pictures of it when things are looking less grim outside.
BUT here's a couple of detail shots to keep you going.
How did you retain the Deore XT logo on the rear mech? I have some cranks I need to tidy up but want to retain/replace my logos so would b interested in knowing?
Well when I was rubbing it down with some emery cloth I was going to make it all silver but as I started I noticed that as the logo was on a section which angled away from the "ridge" on the parallelogram section the emery cloth didn't touch it at first. All I did was leave that section alone from then, using the angle in that section as a line to sand up to.
It's a lot easier than it looks!
Maybe if you use a power tool to do the sanding/polishing you might find it a bit harder to keep straight along the natural crease in that section but as I did it by hand it was easy.
Ahh I see it now, I thought you'd polished all the way across! I thought it was just the way the light hit it, but it's the original black. very nice effect!
