I have a few points that I cannot fit into a coherant paragraph so I'll just fire em out...
Firstly all these sports people are more deserving than tax exiles such as Jagger and his ilk.
But TBH I think gongs should be awarded at the end of peoples careers- Like Kelly Holmes was at the end of hers.
Me personally I wouldnt accept any type of recognition from the royal family or bloody new labour for that matter.
Final bit: I cant help thinking that gold medals/ striped jerseys/ trophies etc are what atheletes compete for and the filthy honours system should be left to buisness people who give MPs money/ jobs on boards.
Final final bit, follows from above- I also think that atheletes are being used to give credibility and popularity to the honours system- to make it appear as if it honours actual achievement rather than 'generosity'.
