Anyone want to display there ride at the cycle show (NEC)

106's are terrible! And have you seen the prices of Mk1/2 Escorts lately? Unaffordable!

'Kids' buy cheap Fiestas and Corsas, throwaway cars when insurance is around £1700 - £2500 for their first year.

Then its Fiesta/Focus ST, VAG TSI/ FR etc and so-on

I would avoid too much of a 'RetroBike' theme, just keep to the history?

Sorry Spud but how many bargains, skip finds, freebies have turned up on the forum from other sources than eBay. This forum has a wealth of knowledge in obtaining cheap bikes and good one's to boot and how to fix them what parts to use etc.

It's not about history its about affordable cycling and as most retro bikes are secondhand after all it can be incorporated quite easily.

Re:

Why not show rhe most expensive restos we have on here just to make people stop and stare ? Kind of like an Eagle Etype Speedster at a motoshow with a £600k pricetag or a Singer Porsche ;)

I'd be the absolute worst person to be there anyway.

30 years of Specialized telling you each and every year their bikes are sooooo much better than last years model? Can you imagine the loud and cynical 'Hah!' accompanying the hipster beardy in a roll-neck top as they introduce the all new EnduroXCJumpGravel grinder of 2017?

This is a trade show, so IMO you should avoid any links to purchasing, or cycling on a budget. We're not manufacturer's and we're not a professional body. Leave that to the rest of the show.

Stick with a simple theme of cycling heritage and history, the development of technology and racing / hobby preferences. And let's be honest, you need marquee bikes to draw in the most interest.

May I suggest you speak with those who have organised similar events and gatherings in and outside the UK. They'll have all sorts of recommendations I'm sure eg Toxic Harold's annual event, the folks in Marin, the Klein meet up, etc etc.

Obviously I'd be happy to show the rarer beasts in my collection: the Caldera and Explosif.

Oh contra the purpose of the stand is exactly that, a way and a means to get into cycling on a budget which the organiser is wanting to promote this is the MOST important part to get more people cycling. Forum members can engage with the public and answer questions like "what to look for when buying a secondhand bike", "where they can be found" etc.

Then I'm out. I respect your opinion I just don't agree with it. Our scene, what's left of it, is much more than point of entry cost.

It's history and heritage not just a cheap alternative, which many will testify is never the case anyway!!

Re:

If they offer us a space I would want to give everyone a chance at taking there ride to the nec.

As I said I will be sending the pics stories and specs to the organiser's to make a decision on what they would like to do or to have or if they want to utilise us at all they could very well say no to us.

It's really gonna be up to them all said and done.

My job is to offer what the members here have from here weather it be 3k worth of bike right down to the guy that's paid £50 for his pride a joy. I respect everyones opinions and taken All the advice on board in this thread and understand what ever the out come from there decision there my be disappointed people and happy people.

Just remember why we are all here on retro bike and would love to display at the nec for the love, the ride the memories of your pride and joy and wanting to share your rides, experiences and Knowledge

i would love to show my dream bikes bikes at the NEC

Pace rc200's, everyone remembers them and i lusted after a green one in plymton cycles in the early 90s, i now have 4...

raleigh summit and dynatechs, great british bikes made affordable and tough as hell, found and built these with the love of a 15 year old whos saved all his paper round money up......over many years haha

87 tufftrax, refirbed and ridden when i need to chill and cruise around without the back ache of some other bikes haha, built in blighty in warwick, uk history right there

i do have some others but the vans too small haha

Re:

Now we are talking! These are all interesting classics of time. Without them, bikes wouldn't be what they are today? Cars have developed over the decades with successes and failures to make them what they are today. There is a great following of classic cars which is forever growing. Cars that we all wished we could own as a kid. Why are bikes different? I have had many a folk look at the bikes I have had, remembering Pace forks, or 'I had one of those!' Why the fear of being ridiculed? Just because we may get laughed at on the trail is ignorance and maybe a lack of knowledge on their part due to either being young or not entering the sport until later on in life. History is fantastic and I constantly teach my children where things came from. I played them records the other night and they laughed, but after a little history lesson, they were interested and in the end fascinated how music came from a piece of vinyl with a needle. I only have one bike but would love to be on a stand educating the public on how bikes became what they are today. I think a stand at the NEC would be of interest, after all if we just stay quiet what hope have we got of promoting the scene. We should be proud of what we do, but some seem rather against the idea. It can't do any harm, only good IMHO. :D
