I did say if. The lock ring can be loosened in the usual way, then if you can get your cup spanner in there you can loosen the cup. Perhaps I've been lucky with the ones I've removed, managed without a puller.

I ended up buying those pullers from Spa Cycles.
May need them in the future too.
