Any thoughts on the ID of this GT

Hi just found this rather tatty looking GT Frame for sale.

The pictures on the advert are not the best, but I'm thinking it could possibly be a 1993 Zaskar. I know that the Zaskar was not the only flat capped GT, I think some of the Pantera's also came like this. This purple colour was also an option on the 93 Zaskar but I'm not sure. Rigid forks with a flip flop........hmmmm seems to be the right spec.

Flat end cap present and I know that the early Zaskars were U brake but I'm not 100% happy with the shape of the the tubing / welding towards the steerer. Seems to me to look more Pantera than Zaskar. The rear derailleur hanger looks to be an integrated part of the frame type rather than bolt on. Not to sure what early Zaskars were, both my 96 Pantera and Zaskar are bolt on

I've emailed the seller a couple questions to see if he can provide any serial numbers on the dropouts

Like I said the pics are crap, but that all I've got to go on. Pantera or Zaskar? GT experts it's over to you :?:

Two positive ID's to check and confirm if it has a flat cap:

#1 if it's stamped 6061 inside the rear dropouts it's a Zaskar...If 7005 it's a Pantera from 1992 which was made in grey or red that year and was a Suntour mid spec bike.

#2 If the serial numbers first four digits are a month and year it's a USA Zaskar.

This one would be a couple days clean up that's for sure. Looks maybe like it was a purple ano frame that got spray bombed. That canvas is a mess. My elbows hurt just thinking about it.

What about the rear derailleur hanger was it integrated on both the early Pantera and Zaskar?

Found a couple of pics of a 1992 Pantera with a Flat cap. The weld on the down / top tube junction looks very much like the frame posted. Until I get a serial number or a 6061 I'm more inclined to say that it's an early Pantera

this is my '92 Pantera (once red as you can see inside the BB shell). Looks like yours.

Who got this one then? Just ended on the Bay. The new owner might want to consider putting together a retrobike polishing team...

Not me - seemed like way to much hardwork unless you used a grinder

I dropped out at the fantastic sum of £5.47

Yeah I dropped out at a tenner, and this was before I found out it was a Pantera and not a Zaskar.
