Not at all worried about the Cougar tyres, just noticed the arrows when I put them on the rims. That's all.

Disc brake noise is probably just pads rattling against the disc by the sound of it.
 
I'm sad enough to know that the chevrons on the tyre are round that way so that as the tyre rolls forward, it pushes mud & debris along the sipes and out of the side of the tyre. It's a self cleaning strategy. the tyre can be mounted the other way for marginally better traction, but at the risk of clogging.

Well yes, if you're an XC dork. But if you're a rad DH dude and don't care one jot for climbing traction and you want the whole world to know it...
