91 Zaskar build

Re:

What can you tell me about this bottom bracket? It's titanium, 107mm spindle. I used the titanium bolts from it on my zaskar. One of the barrings is seized. Is it serviceable? What bike would it have come on with such a short spindle?

only ever saw those in lts/sts dh build kits.... with cromo axle... but xtr cranks you could run that...
put bearing surface in vice thread in a cranks bolt and tap away......

otherwise post to australia for a holiday of beer and beaches... mainly beer tho TBH

i need cups for mine...lost in house moving.....

I took the white plastic piece off of the side that is seized and the removed the dust cover from the bearing. It's a bit rusty in there. I sprayed some WD-40 and tapped it with a hammer. It loosened and started turning. I cleaned it out and repacked it with grease and put it back together. It works now but doesn't turn perfectly smoothly. I'll probably find a replacement bearing and replace that side. Thanks.

Re:

I've painted the rigid GT fork black and repainted the black LX cranks and installed both. The contrasting black and polished aluminum look great. Pictures coming soon.

Re:

I finally got this bike out on the trail. It's been a long time since I was out on a rigid fork. I didn't realize how much steering input is lost with a suspension fork. Even so, there were a lot of rocks and tree roots on that trail. I'm not in a hurry to do it it again. The bike has a good geometry. It's definitely the most nimble bike I have. Very tossable. I can see why we don't really use those old cantilever and U-brakes anymore. Also, whoever was hating on the LX components, I have to say they work as good as the XTR M900 components on my Zaskar LE. The only real difference is 7 speed vs 8 speed and the XTR have an indicator to show what gear you are in while the LX don't. I actually road both bikes today and they are equally smooth and accurate. And no one cares if you ruin old LX parts. This bike is for riding (so long as the trail isn't too bumpy). It will definitely be in rotation with my 1999 Team Marin and my 2003 Trek 6700 SLR.
