9 speed cassette, what one.

I personally get the 32T one as I like the 11-12T at the small end over the 11-13T on the 34
My take is if you ride 11-28T 8speed get the 32T 9sp
if you like the 11-30T 8speed get the 34T one
as the big cog is basically an extra gear.

With a 22T at the front you'll hardly ride in it even up steep hills but sit in the good old 28T or lower most the time if you have to crawl.
Off road that is, the 34T may be fine for long drags up roads.
A 34T would keep you wearing your middle ring out for longer so you may just want to get it if you don't spend time in the other 'faster' gears.

I'm not exactly fit either.

(still I ride 28rear 26front retro's as well and it kills me on some hill as you have to go quick)

32T is lighter then the 34T...

Thanks for the info, could never get a singlespeed, need gears too much.
I'm not as fit as I should be, 14.5 stone.
Am working on it.

All steel for the daily commuter, alloy carrier (xt, xtr or sram) for the fancy bikes. Stuck with 11-32 as can still manage to get up most hills with one big cog in reserve but therell come a time when 36 or more wont be enough.
