1997 Rocky Mountain Altitude T.O.

Hi everyone.

It's been quite a few years since I last posted. Thought I'd share with you my COVID project - a "back to factory spec" rebuild of my '97 Rocky Mountain Altitude Team Only. The latest step was the addition of Panaracer Dart and Smoke Kevlar bead tires. The only thing that is not to the original spec are the Mavic wheels. I still have the original handbuilt Wheeltech wheels with the Brubz2 front hub and XTR rear, but of course the Sun rims have been eaten through over the years by the XTR Canti brakes. As the hubs are still in great shape, a rebuild of the originals will be the finishing touch!

It shifts and rides just like it did the day I purchased it from Mark and Gary at Duke's Cycle in Toronto. I'm so very happy with the outcome!!!!

Agreed @troje. The bike currently weighs in at a shade over 24lbs / 10.9kg. The 18.5” frame is just under 4lbs/ 1.8kg. In my opinion there is no better hard tail than a lightweight triple butted chromoly frame!

Personally I would switch the spacers around on the V-brakes block so the narrow ones are used, bringing the arms more upright and increasing heal clearance. Being wide doesn't increase power on V-brakes.
Just enough so you have enough compression gap (~40mm iirc) when blocks against the rim and then blocks are 1mm from the rims when relaxed.

But each to their own.


oh how is your yellow cable covering attached to stop it moving and can you grab a nice close up of the top headset area*
