1997 Kona Koa.

Evening all,

I have posted about my M2 Stumpjumper, so thought I’d show the girlfriends new acquisition..an original, Catalogue spec ‘97 Koa.

A few weeks ago I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she mentioned she would like to get back into cycling..and had fond memories of riding her cousins ‘cool Kona’ in 90’s.. green light for me to find something quality and retro (ish) ;)

I scoured eBay and the Facebook pages for a few weeks, and found an old ad for a barely used Koa, and was also in talks with someone on eBay who has a nice Kilauea. The Latter was my preference due to it being steel framed, and largely XT, but it sold before we could discuss further.

I ended up going for the Koa. Nice alloy frame, STX RC groupset l, and mid level grip shift. Not the highest spec bike, but perfectly capable, and to be honest, I doubt the girlfriend would notice the difference!

I could not believe how quickly these old bikes were getting snapped up (covid frenzy no doubt), but I still consider them amazing value for the quality.

I’ll probably look to upgrade the groupset at some point, but it’s fine for now.

Anyway enough waffle! Have, some pics:

Re:

That's Tidy with a capital T! As for buying a bike, Covid tax is worse than Ford tax!
