1992 Rocky Mountain Stratos

Re:

just my 2¢. these early "beefy" tubed Rocky Mountain aren't too prone to cracks. it's the later mid/late 90s ones that are made from lighter/thinner wall Easton alum that are.

only location you really had to check was the welded on seat clamp section. and if it hasn't by now, then it will probably remain that way if the proper seat post diameter is used and the clamp not over tightened. and even if cracked there, it is easly repairable and done right, should not be a problem in the future.

now regards to the finish, i'm sure why they ever pearl/clear coated the raw alum for the year or two that they did. the years they left the tubing as raw alum are so much better condition in comparison for aging.

if i were you, i'd probably strip the coating and polish it up to give it a new life.

Your 2 cents is very much appreciated , I had a later Easton Rocky Mountain Elevation that cracked on the rear stay / drop out. weld
So hopefully this one will stand the test ,
I read that a employer from Rocky advised to release the seat binders when not in use to relive stress on seat collar..
The 92 pastel colored forks/decals have slowly grown on me .There's not many about with Bright orange decals so be nice to restore to its former glory ..
but a raw / polished finish .. is appealing too and easier to achieve .
Watch this space
cheers guys

Moved on slightly with this project , was toying with having it powder coated but couldn't justify spunking hundred pound just yet..
So £20 pound chemical dip ,Some pound shop scotch pads and tube of Autosol and so far a half a days effort.

There is a lot of polishing to be done ,and the frame has deep oxiding
so be interesting how to turns out .

Bought a donor Marin Eldridge 1991 for £30, so now have the Wolber At18 Rims ,DX shifters and cantilevers brakes also a sharks fin .shame the Marin frame was a garage find ,but the seat post is seized in frame ,the stem was frozen in forks ,had to cut the stem to drop forks. Also the non drive lx crank has its threads stripped out. the joys

Wow! What a beauty comes out underneath! That required lots of elbow grease I suppose. Great job!

Going to strip and service my wheels and sand down the big forks today so more arm action is needed. Been ill what seems a month now, so cleaning buffing is excellent way to keep the mind busy..

New smoke tyre on the doormat ,so can now replace the 25 year smoke tyre which had ripped sidewall , so to celebrate went for nice ride,

No Mud But picked up nice big dog turd on front tyre ,luckly missed the rear..
