Anyone able to confirm that the adjustable Shimano bottom bracket takes 11 x 1/4 inch balls in each side?

Yes 1/4” balls. You can get them in cages, or just put them in loose as this enables you too put in extra bearings on each side. Can’t remember the total number per side, but you can’t put too many as they just don’t fit properly within the cup.
