1958 Raleigh Record Ace Moderne

Old School Hero
Ten years after I purchased this on eBay (UK) and initially restored it to the road, I have finally completed it with the correct stem/'bars and mudguards.

This model was only in production for two years, a reworked Raleigh Super Lenton to take the new Cyclo-Benelux Mark 7 5-speed derailleur. But maybe more noteworthy as being the last quality lightweight also built to take Sturmey-Archer hub gears or fixed/free hub.

This particular machine is special as it was built by Raleigh's works dept. for a Raleigh employee as a gift to his son for his 17th birthday. So it has a different livery from the commercial models (added white seat tube band, lug lining and extra long chrome socks on the front fork). It was also fitted with the special hollow bb spindle of the 1947-54 RRA.

That is a stunningly gorgeous bike Peter. Lovely condition and a nice story behind it. A nice specification also.

A 24" frame at only 17. I am still growing into my 21" frame at 60!
