1952 Hill Special Path Racer - new pics!

Re: 1952 Hill Special Path Racer

My mate had a Hill and despite having many, many bikes it was always one of his favourites to ride...I am also going to be using 700c wheels on my build, for the reason, that's what I have....and am tempted by non-cottered crank set...

Re: 1952 Hill Special Path Racer

had a Hill Special rescued from wrecked (I suspect a canal!)and rode it as fixed for years until the frame finally gave up the ghost. Now got another 1949 lugged not welded this time and just waiting for dry weather.

Re: 1952 Hill Special Path Racer

Loved the ride quality of mine. Always wanted one of their heavily chromed early frames, both mine plain paint finish

Re: 1952 Hill Special Path Racer

Rummaged through the parts bin - pics soon.

Rideable rather than period correct.

Saving pennies for tubs.

Re: 1952 Hill Special Path Racer

Weeeellllllll....

Here goes:

Sachs-Huret with an old 6spd shimano dt shifter and Ultegra rear mech for the 5spd hyperglide freewheel.

Set of Normandy hubs on unknown eyeletted rims / Deli tyres

Weinmann centrepulls with brrrraaaand new Gran Comp drilled levers

GB Kromo stem, GB bars

Sugino 110bcd chainset, shimano un55 bb.

Ride? Nice - once I'd got everything set right, its good.

I dont know what will come next, I've been spoiled by ramped cassettes. This build is temporary until I decide if its worth going period correct - wheels would be the most expensive thing to source then the chainset.

Anyway, it rides pretty well for some 60 years old

Nice. I will be selling a pair of Campag Record hubbed sprint wheels if you're looking for that sort of thing.....
