    Dreams do come true….Whyte PRST1.

The first proper bike I spent money on was in 1998, I bought a Marin Mount Vision and still have it to this day. I was a frequent visitor to Denton’s Cycles in Newcastle (sadly long gone) where I bought it, and I remember being offered a test ride of a Whyte PRST1 when they first came out. I was...

    Orbit Tandem

It’s a bit of an optical illusion as the saddle goes quite a way up and there’s an length of leg room for my good lady wife stoker 🤣

    Orbit Tandem

I’ve refurbished all sorts of bikes over the last 12 years or so, but this just fell into my garage over Christmas (you know how it is). I was hoping there might be some tandem or Orbit experts about who might be able to identify which model I have? Looking on the t’interweb she seems an...

    Dawes 1996 brochure / catalogue

Good Lord! I’m only after the pages with the various Galaxy models. Any chance you can scan them in?

    Dawes 1996 brochure / catalogue

I too am in the quest for a 1996 or 1997 Dawes brochure/catalogue. It seems you can have every year back to the Norman conquest but if stops in the early 1990s!

    Shimano 5600 name plates.

I’ve recently picked up lovely Salsa CX bike with Shimano 5600 shifters. It’s a common problem with them I guess, but the name plates are scuffed and scratched. They work brilliantly and I’m reluctant to swap them out. Looks like they’re like hens teeth to buy - has anyone got a secret stash? Or...

    Campag 8/9 speed compatibility

I picked up a lovely Joe Waugh recently, It’s all old skool Campag 8 speed. I need to fit a triple chainset as the current gearing is way too much for my old legs. Question is, will a pre 2000 9 speed Veloce rear derailleur work with 8 speed Chorus shifters on an 8 speed cassette? I have a...

    Flat bar gravel bike.

Re: The gravel tag is a funny one. Probably created by the industry to flog more bikes. Among my bikes I’ve got a newish gravel bike (Giant Revolt) and I’ve got a 1997 Dawes Galaxy with nobbly tyres on. The Dawes is by far and away the better gravel bike.

Sun Tour Cyclone GT rear derailleur

Lovely condition Sun Tour Cyclone GT rear mech from around 1977. Don’t think it’s been used much, if at all. The pulley wheels are original and the spring is strong. All adjustment screws move freely. Also includes the hanger if your frame needs it. £50 posted.

    Lava Dome Joe Murray

Re: Decided to take the old girl home with me after all. Had a bit of a polish up this afternoon resulting in a new/old pair of tan wall tyres on an old pair of XT wheels I’ve had hanging around since I put discs on my old Mount Vision. Had the cassette in the parts washer for a bit and so far...

    Show us your (Marin) Boingers!

Re: I know the red n’ white B17 at the time had the disc tabs and that swingarm, which looked very much like the mk2. Maybe they were added to later models. I guess disc brakes were few and far between and in their infancy back in 1998. I’ve got the brochure somewhere, I might dig it out for...

    Show us your (Marin) Boingers!

Re: My ‘98 Mount Vision came with mk2 but I replaced it with mk3 purely for the disc brake tabs. Both have taken a massive amount of abuse over the years - mainly due to the heft of the pilot!!!! Still going very strong though.

Getting a bike posted/delivered in one piece.

I’m sure there used to be a whole thread on Retrobike about the best companies to use for posting/couriering a bike but I’ll be buggered if I can find it! Anyone got the link? Or better still, the cheapest most reliable company to use?

    Campagnolo Rear Derailleur.

Just a quickie, I’m sure someone will know! Can anyone tell me from which series this derailleur is from? And roughly which year? Thanks in advance.

    Lava Dome Joe Murray

I work for a bike charity which recycles old donated bikes. Sometimes something nice gets left on our forecourt. This beauty arrived this morning, I must admit I went a bit misty-eyed as I always wanted one back in my youth. She’ll take a bit of elbow grease and autosol but most of it’s...

Re: Thank you very much. It may be top end Campag but it’s too much for my aching legs!

    Campagnolo Strada

I’ve recently bought a lovely Joe Waugh and it’s come with some lovely Campag components. The 53/42 chainset is a total leg-killer and caused great anguish on a recent hilly ride. It’s stamped 170 Strada 0. The 0 is in a circle. Does this mean it was manufactured in 1980? Any help identifying...

Klein Stage 1997 roadbike for sale - lovely condition.

Re: I struggled for a long time getting photos on here - however if you’ve got an iPhone there’s an app called Image Size which reduces the size of your photos from MB to KB. (Android probably has something similar I guess).
