Hi! Here comes my "neo-retro" road bike.

The frame, a Cavallo Marino, was handbuilt by Jean-Louis Picca (who was based in Orange in the south of France).
The Art-déco paintwork was made by Philippe Sauret

The frame was built in 1996 but the bike was mounted for the fist time in 2008 (with a lot of Campa components from differents periods).

The wheel are custom too with tied (is-it the right word in English? in french we say "ligaturé") spokes.

Not seen this before - what is the reason for it - stiffer wheels?

Lovely bike.

Lovely bike.

It's an old common practice of some wheelbuilders (at least in France) :

In theory, tied spokes give :
- a better wheel response thanks to the direct rider power transmission : the spokes aren’t allowed to move one on each other.
- a better lateral stiffness still thanks to spokes immobility with this one it’s linked.

But I think that at first, ties were made to prevent broken spokes to have a contact with the fork or the frame

Tieing (?spelling!?) and Soldering is perceived as adding stiffness to a wheel particularly when used for racing. As a bonus, as mentioned above, if a spoke breaks it prevents it from flapping about and catching on the frame (and worse!).

Very nice bike. Super paint scheme. I'm intrigued by the seat cluster. Was this a 'standard' seat lug supplied by the lug manufacturer?

It seems to me that's the standard lug... I saw several Cavallo built with this nice "aero" seat lug
