Coolwall: surely 4-bolt chainsets are uncool?

To my mind the M900 XTR chainset is the zenith point of asthetic MTB crank design.

Actually, M900 XTR is the zenith point of MTB Component design!

On the road, for me, it has to be 1992 C-Record. The finest!

Have to say I like pretty much all the Middleburns and for the road surely it is Super Record (except for the non standard bcd which makes new chainrings all but impossible to find).

But are we digressing from the 4 bolt thread?

MMM..interesting point... is 3 bolt cool (Coda and Middleburn) and of course 5...leaving 4 bolt as neither one or the other.

:?

Look Mam No Bolts

What about no bolts then? (not visible anyway) lot easier to keep clean!:-

Rings

Yes, they come up on Ebay quite often, but to be honest the ring and sprocket wear thing is always over done. Only one thing wears a sprocket and that's a stretched chain, buy a Rohloff chain guage and check every week, it's surprisng how often you need to change one, can sometimes be every few weeks in Winter.

Agreed, especially once you learn and use TA rings...I always found that the Shimano ones were incredibly soft and wore out in no time.
