Daft question: Cycle tool hire

Here goes with above mentioned daft question.

Is there anywhere that you can hire specialised cycle tools, as opposed to buying them?

I want to remove a couple of existing headsets and replace them.

CRC amongst others sell them, but that means shelling about £50.00 fror something i'm gonna use twice!

Unless anyone on here is selling some??

Or is it best left to my LBS tpo do the work, and rip me off?

Many thanks

If your LBS rips you off, find another one. There's plenty of good ones about.

If you're not sure that it's been done previously, it's worth asking them to face the headtube before they fit the new one.

If you want, only have the press in the fixed cups and you do the rest. I have three headsets to put in soon and this is what I will do.

There is a shop where I used to live that had a public shop (Freewheel Bike in Minneapolis, Minnesota) that had tools available. Not everything such as the BB threading tools and the like. However, given that I doubt you're in Mpls, it probably isn't going to help :)

Have you tried:

a. asking your LBS if they'll loan you their headset tool for £X (prob tool stays in their workshop, you do the work there)? They can only say no, but why should they, it's money?

b. doing it yourself with various bits of wood, vices, hammer etc? Doesn't sound impressive, I grant you, but I've never had any problem.

At my 'not so' LBS a packet of biscuits / doughnuts / cakes is considered suitable currency for 5 minute jobs like removing headset cups. Give it a try. ;)
Saying that I suppose it also depends how well you know the staff or how much you have spent recently.
