Team Bike Specifications

Stuart, I can tell you for sure some of the spec are not period correct with the frame, for example the bike has single pivot DA brakes ....but the bike belonged to a specific rider: Laurent Roux. Maybe this were simply his preferences. Easiest to find out is to email him :) I learnt he has a website. Or maybe Chris2lou has some kind of hotline to him, as he used to ride with Mr Roux in France.

Team Bikes

can somebody explain the term ' Team Bike' as used on here ????

have seen people saying 'such and such team bike'

to me a team bike is one which was actually used by a race team and trying to prove that I would think is nearly impossible.

Every pro contract in the 60/70/80's had the same agreement whereby all equipment was returned to the team at the end of the contract, some riders bought the bikes to sell on to friends to make extra money. Riders usually had one bike per season unless it broke and had to take it to races with them and all the spare team bikes had quick release seat clamps fitted to spare bikes in differant sizes.

As someone who must have had over 20 'team bikes' in my pro career I have no idea the frame numbers of any bike I had so trying to say that such a bike was the bike I won whatever race on I cannot prove or dissprove.

the other problem is that most of the top riders had there frames built by specialists and then painted in the team colours.

or are 'team bikes' replicas of the original team bikes ?????

That's a great post and something I always think about.
I agree, the term 'team bike' in many cases should be 'team spec bike'.
I had a few bikes that have come straight from teams or people who source bikes from teams. Some you can tell are race bikes as spec is different to standard (brazed on race number holders etc) but difficult to say unequivocably. Bit different to old race cars where you'll have a chassis & engine number.

team bikes

I know one top pro who was supposed to use sidi shoes, but as italian shoes are very narrow, he always used Adidas Merckx shoes, so took off all the adidas strips, and then all the stripes off the sidi's shoes and stuck them on the adidas ones, so in ever photo he looked like he was using sidi shoes.

I remeber someone told me that there are more Manx Nortons motorbikes in existance now than were ever made by the factory.

as someone who has worked in the classic car field for the last 12 years I have seen 2 cars with the same chassis number both claiming to be the original one .
