Classic Gary Fisher

Repack Rider

Senior Retro Guru
I found this photo in a pile of other old pics, and I figure it will amuse the RetroBros.

In 1975 we took a ride in the Point Reyes National Seashore and got busted. The rider talking to the ranger is Bob Klock, and Gary Fisher is in the foreground.

If you will look at Gary's handlebar, barely in the frame at the bottom, you can see that he is using a pair of "stem shifters" instead of a thumbie. Before we discovered thumbshifters on cheap Japanese touring bikes we used these similarly cheap shifters, and shifted both derailleurs with the same hand.

Stem shifters :)
Sound not very strange, because the race bikes had them on the downtube, so why not on the stem, it's more in range.
Cool pic. :D

The stem shifters were moved out to the handlebar for off road purposes.
