can i record the first mechanical?! went for a test ride today and the chain is jumping when peddling hard (not changing gear) - i'm thinking my cassette must be worn than i thought as i've got a new chain and chainrings...

any ideas?
anyone got a spare 8spd block i can borrow/buy tomorrow?...

I can bring a used (but not abused) 8 speed cassette.

I'll take it anyhow.

This sounds like it is gonna be fun on the parking lot ... I bet there'll be freeriders there throwing peanuts at us

cheers sylvain that'd be great (could you also bring a chainwhip too?! )

am hoping its the cassette, can't think what else it could be?! might bring the Airborne as backup ;)

Righto, I'm off for a few beers and some pizza [I'm sure that's what Ned used to eat pre-race?].. Lookin forward to seeing y'all tomorrow at 10! :D

pasta (carbo loading ;) ) and a nice bottle of red wine for me :p , 'new' bike is clean so should will have someting to ride tomorrow!

quite excited, and as MadCow says just one more sleep

Dorking Mad!

Fettled the Alpinestars as much as one can in the dusky city streets of Manchester - it's sure to fail first time out so I'll leave it as the back up....

Which means the heavier, sturdier Yeti gets the nod for the big day - if metal had feelings, I'm sure it'd be chuffed!

Just about to dial up for a green curry - home delivery - to soak up the rapidly guzzled champagne celebrating the wife's promotion - perhaps not from the Ned text book of night before big day regimes, maybe from the Lazenby one though...

Spare a thought for those having to get up at 5am to get there....

Neil

Had a final go tonight at fettling the Cannondale, it rides and stops but no gear changing at present (cos no cables).

I hadn't planned on changing the brakes but the cheapie Taiwanese V brakes were playing up. Had a root around in the spares boxes and found my Shimano LX V brakes and levers (circa 1994) so much more in keeping.

In fact I found lots of period bits in the back of the garage, so it actually turned into an almost complete rebuild and now sports a lot of its original kit.

After getting that all sorted I just ran out of time to get onto the gears.

changes include:

Selle Italia Flite Titanium saddle.
1991 XT Chainset (it had L & M Stardrive cranks as a single speeder 1997ish so far too new)
1991 XT rear mech
XT front mech of indeterminate age (I know its not original, possibly '96)
1991 XT 7 speeder Thumbies
Onza porky paw grips (in red so they clash horribly with the green Specialised forks - must get the Quadras sorted)
1993 DX SPD's
Black Onza Porkies (cos I put my skinny mud tyres on the Spesh)
And I fitted my almost original wheels, Black 1991 XT seven speed hubs, DT Swiss spokes and (retro fitted in 1993), Mavic 231 rims.

Oh heck this retro thing is really getting to me!
