Looking to get a road bike after a 20 year gap, possibly looking at a fixie/singlespeed so would a 58cm frame be OK for my 6' 4" build :? (My inside leg is 34")

Or maybe a 60? Most frames these days seem to be 'compact'. Length though, sit on it with hands on the hoods. Look down. If you can't see the front hub, then its about right.

A lot of interesting stuff around on bike fit if you do a quick google.

One of the most commonly used pieces of advice is

BIKE FRAME SIZE (in cm c-t) = Inseam (cm) x .67

This is for a convential frame. Interestingly of the road bikes I own those which fit me best adhere to this rule.

I'd say 58c-t was a bit small. With a small frame you'll have a big saddle to bar drop which is ok for Graham Obree but maybe not so good for the more average. I'd look at 62 c-t and go from there depending on personal preference.

I agree with John - I am 6'3" with 35" inside leg and also new to road bikes - mine is 63cm which is just right :D
