Squealing V-brakes...

Well, tried the zip-tie thing but no joy... the bolts are all tight and the pads are correct in terms of rotation too...

Tried one of the silver rims from my AA on it and no squealing, so it looks like it may be more down to the cd coating on the rim than anything else! Cheers for all the advice though guys!

Gonna try a different brand of pads to see if it's the Shimano pads that don't like the cd rim - anyone got any brand suggestions?

Could anyone post a pic of the zip tie trick, I'm a bit/lot too thick to work it out myself!

And I think the beer can shim works for a couple of weeks and then it's square one again.

The upside of squealing brakes is you don't need a bell and it certainly frightens the dogs off (I made a truly terrible 'joke' here but thankfully had the delayed sense to edit it out).

I was having a think about the zi[p tie trick and it's really to stop the annoying rattleing - although it may help with squeeling.

I'll do a pic tonight if nobody beats me to it.
