Searching for the perfect mudguards...

Retro Newbie
Hello all,

I am looking for a very specific pair of mudguards and cannot seem to find any that fit the bill anywhere... Here's what I'm after:

- Alloy or stainless steel construction
- Full length long mudguards
- Narrow width (around 36mm)
- Smooth design (no ridges or wierd finishes)
- No pre-drilled holes in them whatsoever

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
P

There are some awesome ones from Japan...Nitto perhaps?

Why do you want metal though? The SKS ones are way lighter and last well.

Gilles Berthoud do no-nonsense undrilled stainless mudguards in various widths and diameters.

The website's a pig to navigate, but click the English option, then search under "fenders".

They're cheap, but the stays and fittings are extra, and I don't know what postage might set you back.

Failing that, there's Honjo, but I don't know a UK stockist, assuming that's where you are.

Thanks for the replies.

This is for a custom build and the mudguards will be painted to match the frame, so plastic is not an option.

I have been looking at the Gilles Berthoud ones... they are close but no good as they only come in 40mm and above widths and i need something slightly narrower.
Also they do have holes for the stays drilled in them.

Honjo do a 36mm width mudguard which is almost perfect, but it looks like they are going to cost a ton as i'd have to order from america or japan (I'm in the UK).
Again they do have stay holes drilled... maybe I'm not going to find any with no holes at all in them though...

Thanks,
P

If they're too wide, they're too wide, but they do come undrilled. Pre-drilled is a cost option.

I know of a couple of shops here in Paris that stock metal guards, but I suspect they're sourced from the same factory as Berthoud.

Have decided to go for the Berthouds as they are the only ones I can find that are available with no drilling. They are slightly wider than I wanted but other than that they are perfect.
Thank you all for your input,
P
