it was more the point that some people say how can a top end component cost x amount when it only cost y amount 15 years ago! its the old 'i did a weeks shopping for a fiver and still had change to fill the car' (my mum used this on me when she first moved in with my dad in 1965, using the chart thats £66! i could do that now!)

basically you just times an amount from the past by the number on the page and that gives you what it would cost now.
