setting chain length

i cant quite remember how to set this..is it you put it in small small and adjust so the chain doesnt quite touch the top jockey??

Or the official Shimano way is big big + 2 complete links for short cage mechs, + 3 complete for long mechs. ( a complete link is the narrow and wide link paired if you see what I mean)

Or if you run 11-28 and 26-36-46 then just take 6 links off a new chain and it will fit.

Largest chainring, smallest sprocket the two jockey wheels should be inline vertically. If theres big jumps in the cassette, a full sus frame or your not sure run it on the longer side of the equation
