Middleburn RS7's, strip & polish

Got these last week intending to use them on my AMP, would
have prefered five arms in silver but i knew they would be easy
enough to polish and i can live with the four arm spider, sometimes
we have to take what we can get in this crazy Retrobike world

Whole job took about an hour or so on and off.

First pic as bought, sound but typically scabby and black.

Black anodising removed using drain unblocker, seriously violent stuff, i've splashed Nitromorse on my skin which is bad enough
but i think this stuff would burn you to the bone, thick chemical gloves and extreme caution is best.

Bloody well works though, this was them after about 20 minutes, anodising mostly gone, only thin staining remaining

Cranks were then cleaned using a combination of 600 grit wet and
dry sand paper, a medium Scotchbrite pad and a Brillo soap pad,
re-applied some drain cleaner to some really stubourn bits of
anodising, this took about another 20 minutes to half an hour to get
them looking like this.

A quick five minute polish with some Autosol and they are just
about done, will be fitting them with blue Middleburn rings and
blue self extracting crank bolts to go with the blue/polished theme
of the AMP.

They look great! :D

One question: What are you going to do to prevent corrosion forming on the aluminium now? Car wax or summat?

Yeah, car wax will help, i use Mer on my polished frames, though
member Kaiser recommended some other stuff i've still to try, can't remember the name of it though , will also give them a wipe
with T-cut when i'm cleaning the bike that also helps ;)

I've got an old pair of XT's that I polished up years ago, they're still in the garage! You can see one or two spots of corrosion forming on 'em (they've been left unprotected). Car wax would have stopped it but it was just an experiment at the time.

When you find out the name of the other stuff that Kaiser suggests can you post it on your thread? :)
