old raleigh slow slow project/daily rider

well i honestly dont see why bikes like this get so much hate, its a brilliant bike and id have another if i could find one, its getting a few changes from standard but itll still work well and probably never break. once my rsp is built this will get retired a bit and only get bought out occasionally.
also building a lizard next to this to be my winter bike. i doubt ill ever have any issues with that tbh.
 
almost done with the really crappy paint job,itll be covered up soon anyway with something wich is erm............. whats that word...................... different.

not done much to the Raleigh lately but going to get some work done to it today and hopefully have it in a rolling frame state atleast by end of the day (going to do bits and bobs here and there).
ordered a few things for it including some new slick tyres, mudguards, two sets of lights, decals.
still got to get a bottom pull front mech and a set of shifters, going back to hunting for parts on ebay now.
 
not done much to this lately but since the death of the yellow peril ive for some reason felt the need to go and drag this out of my granddads shed and finally get it done properly. in mocking up stages to see if the parts ive got for it fit. the paint is going to be getting wire brushed off with a drill and Im going to attempt brush painting it as suggested earlier in the thread. it got knocked about in the shed and the red paint job got ruined. got a set of chrome wheels for it that need a bit of love.
heres what ive been upto this morning. sorry for the bad pic ive not got a decent camera.

it doesnt matter if people love or hate your bikes,whether its worth £1 or £1000's all that matters is that YOU built it and YOU enjoy riding it :xmas-wink:

not updating anymore and only popped on because I got a email notification, I cant ride for a long time because of health issues. the frame got cut up for a recumbent trike project which is currently on hold.
 
This thread reminds me of the 1980's when I had read a magazine article about these new fangled mountain bikes that had taken off in the US. So I went to my all singing all dancing Raleigh dealer and talked to a very nice chap in a natty blue overall complete with Raleigh logo and explained what I was looking for.

"No, that's just an American fad and they will never catch on, now what about this nice sturmy archer three speed, great for canal banking", said the very nice chap.

Is it any wonder they went out of business, just like the British motor and motorcycling industry, a failure to innovate.
