Retro Newbie
Hi Guys
New to the forum but I have just been given this bike from a guy I work with who has had it for 5-6 years in his loft his was given it hoping it was a colnago or pinarello.
It's a falcon 531 tubed bike designed by Ernie Clements
My plans are at the moment to use it as my daily to work and rebuild it maybe in the future. It's gets used for work about 10km a day and 100km or so every Saturday so frequently used just wondering if anybody good give me a bit more info on the model that would be great.
Here's the spec:
Groupset
Dura ace 7400 6 speed rear mech
600 front mech
Modolo brake levers
Ultegra 6800 brake calipers
Stronglight cranks 54/38
Unknown cassette 25/13 I think

Contact points
Cinelli bars and stem
Selle italia Turbo saddle
French pedals
Christophe cage and straps

Wheels
Unknown capaganolo front
MA2 rimed back
Continetal gp4000 dura skin 25mm (only the best will do)

I also have a set of campagnolo record hubs that came with the bike on some mavic tubular rims that were knackered so hopefully rebuild a new wheel set with those hubs

Most of the parts I have fitted as the original campagnolo group and modolo components had a lot of parts missing I.e adjustment screws and the like.

Here's the pictures:

Let me know what you think
Cheers Jack

That's a real mix.......the frame appears to have Nervex lugs but the forks are much later as is the kit attached to it. The Falcon stickers are also not really the right era, they are way later than the frame. The Falcon Stickers are 70's plus, the square ones on the downtube don't match the others. The headtube badge is the same as my 70's Falcon but are still available........and the damn things used to fall off !

Have a look around the frame for a frame number stamped somewhere, under the bottom bracket is a good place......

Nice frame whatever the builder..............the frame is a bit older than you think :)

Shaun

Hi
Yeah i though the forks were different to the frame they have some special looking lugs ill get a photo today there is a frame number 5 long ill fine that as well today it has campagnplo rear lugs or at least that's stamped on them :) alos I though the stickers looked way to different to be the same era would the 531 sticker help if the age ?

Okay so mine would of been that colour originally?
Here's a few more pictures if the rear lugs front fork 531 sticker also a stamp found on the bb casing RGF

RGF is the maker of the bottom bracket...... all over black was an unusual colour for "sporting" frames so likely has been resprayed. Those lugs go with a frame which would have had contrasting colour panels.

Reynolds sticker is for frame made with reynolds main tubes and not forks and stays, nice lugwork would suggest a better frame.....

Shaun

Okay thanks for the info the frame number is 45591
I thought it might be resprayed as the paint is in quite good condition for the age might have to do a similar paint job to the linked above maybe when's it gets painted again (not for a while just gathering ideas)
Okay the lugwork is quite fancy I had a late 80's peugeot aneto with 531p but that had rather simple in comparison thanks for the info
