Unlike a standard quick release front wheel the skewer is 9mm diameter and effectively works as a though axle:

Lets just say less than it should have cost, it took the chap an hour to make it given the tolerances but he very kindly charged me a considerably less than an hours work.
 
Beware of the carbon impregnated plastic levers on those. I broke two within a couple of weeks. Absolute rubbish, I replaced the £40 DT Swiss one with a £6 Superstar one and it's much better!
 
Thanks for the heads up, I'll probably change it for the SuperStar one in due course, for now I'm just building it up with what I have in my bits box to see how it rides.
