MTB Shifters wanted

Retro Newbie
Hi

Looking to buy some shifters for an 8 speed MTB i have.
The bike is an old Claude Butler.
Can someone tell me would it be better to buy modern shifters like Deore XT or are the likes of retro SHIMANO XTR ST M950 3X8 24 SPEED STI just as good as the modern shifter.

I would really like to keep the bike retro, but like the idea of modern if they work better.

Has anyone got any shifters for sale?

I've got a really nice set of XT M737 STI 8 speed for sale.

The older Retro ones are no better or worse in the rapidfire versions than the modern equivalent. The better the model, the better they will be.
However if you want ultra reliable and light, go for Thumbshifters, Shimano XT or SunTour they have never been beaten for reliability and low weight.
