Wanted Shimano ST-M095 brake / shifter

Tenbob

Retro Newbie
Wanted. A Shimano brake/shifter model ST-M095. Right only, or a pair. Can be damaged or in poor condition, provided the plastic part I need is intact.

The right shifter on my Team Marin MTB has failed. The cable just detached itself from the shifter when I was changing gear. I took it apart and an internal plastic part has failed. It's the bit that attaches the end of the cable to the rotating mechanism. It has broken into numerous small pieces and is unusable. I can't see any way to improvise a repair, so a replacement is called for. It does seem odd that the rest of the unit is solidly made from substantial metal parts and the cable is connected by this thin and fragile piece of plastic. Anyway, it has lasted since the early 1990s, so it can't be all bad.

I'm looking for a right hand shifter or a pair in any condition. It could be completely broken, provided the part I need is present. Mine is an 8 speed, but I suspect that the same part is used in the 7 speed, so either would do.

Photos of the complete unit are below. Can anyone help, please?

Hi Walterscot. Thanks for the offer. My ebay one arrived this morning and I hope to try it soon. I need to check if the parts are swappable to change it from 7 speed to 8.

If I get into trouble I may still need another one ! !

Best wishes, Bob

Hi Walterscot. Have you still got the shifter you mentioned? I would still be interested if it is an 8 speed shifter..

I received the item I bought on ebay and fitted it. But I wasn't able to make up a working 8 speed shifter from the parts I had. So I'm using a 7 speed shifter with an 8 speed cog which is a bit of a mess.

Sorry for the delayed response Bob. I do still have the shifter but it’ll be a wee while before I can check/send it - my wife has just had our second child so I’m away from the workshop until 1st May. If you can wait a couple of weeks I’ll be back in touch then. Cheers, Walter

Hi Walter. Congratulations on the new addition to the family. I expect you'll be quite busy for the next 18 years, so don't worry too much about the shifter. Thanks. Bob
