years ago there was a cake shop in runcorn where they used to sell a cake called a "wet nellie"
they were my favourite cake in the world.
then the cake shop shut and no more wet nellies.
does anyone remember them ?
and even more importantly, are they still made ?

Food writer William Black made a passing reference to them in his book The Land That Thyme Forgot but seemed to think they were a Walsall speciality, which sounds well wide of the mark to me....having grown up in that part of the world I'd never heard of them until I read that book! I do have very grim childhood memories of bread pudding, though - even now I can't stand the stuff!
